How do I budget in GBP and PKR?
To budget in GBP and PKR, pay UK housing, council tax, energy and family costs in pounds first, then set a fixed monthly pound amount for relatives in Pakistan. Convert it to rupees after fees and exchange margin, agree the rupee figure with family, and save monthly in pounds for bigger seasonal transfers such as Eid, weddings and Zakat.
Start with the household in the UK. Mortgage or rent, council tax, energy, food and children's costs come first. The GBP to PKR transfer then becomes a fixed monthly bill, with a separate pot for the larger sums families often send at certain times of year.
The calculator above covers each step. Amount in GBP is what you plan to send. Transfer fee (%) is the provider's charge; divide a flat fee by the amount to get a percentage. Share of your GBP income to send home and monthly income in GBP are optional and show the monthly figure in pounds and rupees.
For other currencies, use our currency converter. The EMOH Pay features page shows how multi-currency tracking and family sharing work. Relatives who send from the US or the Gulf can use the USD to PKR and AED to PKR converters.
GBP to PKR today: the rate you see versus the rate you get
The GBP to PKR rate in search results is the mid-market rate. Providers convert at their own rate, usually with a margin below it, and many add a fee. Because the rupee trades mainly against the US dollar, the pound to rupee rate reflects both the pound's value against the dollar and the rupee's.
The rate built into this tool is an indicative 2026 figure for planning. Check a live GBP to PKR rate and your provider's quote before you send, and compare providers on rupees received.
| Scenario | Fee | Exchange margin | Rupees received |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mid-market, no costs | £0 | 0% | Rs 148,000 |
| Low-margin provider | £1 | 0.5% | Rs 146,892 |
| "No fee" offer | £0 | 1.5% | Rs 145,780 |
| Higher fee and margin | £12 | 3% | Rs 139,253 |
The difference between the best and worst option is about Rs 7,600 on one transfer, or roughly Rs 92,000 over a year of monthly transfers. See remittance fees explained for a full comparison method.
Sending money from the UK to Pakistan safely
- Use FCA-regulated firms. Check a provider on the Financial Conduct Authority register before you send. Regulated firms must safeguard customer money.
- Avoid hundi and hawala. Informal channels are unregulated, leave no reliable record and offer no protection if money goes missing.
- Choose how family receives it. Bank deposit, cash pickup or mobile wallets such as JazzCash and Easypaisa are common options. Wallets suit everyday bills; bank deposits suit larger sums.
- Consider a Roshan Digital Account. Non-resident Pakistanis can open one online with participating Pakistani banks, set up under a State Bank of Pakistan initiative. It can help with savings, bills or property payments in Pakistan.

Planning for Eid, weddings, Zakat and trips to Pakistan
Many British Pakistani households send larger amounts at certain times: Ramadan and Eid, Qurbani, family weddings, medical costs and school fees. Treating these as surprises forces rushed transfers at whatever rate is on offer that week.
A better approach is a set of monthly pots in pounds, often called sinking funds. Divide each expected cost by the months until it is due and save that amount every month. Zakat is commonly calculated at 2.5% of qualifying wealth held for a lunar year, so a monthly pot spreads it out; ask a scholar how it applies to you.
Trips to Pakistan deserve their own pot too, covering flights, gifts and spending money. Convert spending money in planned amounts rather than at the airport.

No. It uses an indicative 2026 rate for planning. Check a live rate and your provider's quote before you send.
What is the cheapest way to send money from the UK to Pakistan?
Compare rupees received for the same pound amount across FCA-regulated providers. A low advertised fee can hide a wide exchange margin, so look at the final rupee figure.

Informal channels sit outside the regulated system and offer no protection. Pakistan's authorities encourage using banks and licensed providers through the Pakistan Remittance Initiative.
Can relatives in Pakistan see our budget?
