How do I budget in AED and PKR?
To budget in AED and PKR, cover your UAE rent, food and transport in dirhams first, then fix the amount you send to Pakistan as a set share of salary. Convert it to rupees after fees and exchange margin, agree that rupee figure with family, and keep a small dirham buffer because the rupee moves with the US dollar.
Start with your dirham costs in the UAE: rent or a bed space, food, transport and phone. Whatever is left is what you can split between money sent home and your own savings. Converting AED to PKR only makes sense once that split is decided, otherwise every good rate tempts you to send more than your budget allows.
The calculator above covers each step. Amount in AED is what you plan to send. Transfer fee (%) is the provider's charge; if it is a flat fee, divide it by the amount sent to get a percentage. Share of your AED income to send home and monthly income in AED are optional and show the monthly figure in both currencies.
Once the split is set, record it. The EMOH Pay features page shows how multi-currency tracking works, and our currency converter handles any other pair you need.
Why AED to PKR moves almost exactly like USD to PKR
The Central Bank of the UAE has pegged the dirham to the US dollar at 3.6725 dirhams per dollar since 1997. That means the AED to PKR rate is, in practice, the USD to PKR rate divided by 3.6725. When the rupee weakens against the dollar, it weakens against the dirham by almost the same amount.
For budgeting, this is useful. You do not need to watch two separate markets; news about the rupee and the dollar tells you where your transfer is heading. Our USD to PKR converter shows the same corridor from the dollar side.
The rate in this tool is an indicative 2026 figure. AED to PKR today will differ, and the rate a provider offers will usually sit below the mid-market rate you see in search results.
AED to PKR rate: what AED 2,000 really becomes
This example uses an illustrative mid-market rate of 76 rupees per dirham and three hypothetical providers. It shows the maths, not a real quote.
| Scenario | Fee | Exchange margin | Rupees received |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mid-market, no costs | AED 0 | 0% | Rs 152,000 |
| Low margin, small fee | AED 15 | 0.3% | Rs 150,407 |
| "Zero fee" offer | AED 0 | 1.5% | Rs 149,720 |
| Higher fee and margin | AED 25 | 2.5% | Rs 146,348 |
The difference between the best and worst provider here is about Rs 4,000 on a single transfer, or close to Rs 49,000 over a year of monthly transfers. See remittance fees explained for a fuller comparison method.
Ways to send money from the UAE to Pakistan
- Exchange houses. Licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE, with branches in most areas and app-based transfers. Rates and fees vary between them, so compare.
- Bank transfers from a UAE account. Convenient if your salary is paid into that account, but check the margin on the rate.
- Online and app-based services. Often competitive for regular monthly transfers to a Pakistani bank account.
- Mobile wallets in Pakistan. Many services can deliver to wallets such as JazzCash and Easypaisa, useful for family without a bank account.
- Cash pickup. Fast, but usually a little more expensive.
Avoid informal hundi or hawala channels. They are outside the regulated system, offer no protection if money goes missing, and do not build a documented record of your remittances. The State Bank of Pakistan's Pakistan Remittance Initiative promotes formal channels, and non-resident Pakistanis can open a Roshan Digital Account online with participating Pakistani banks.
Sample budget: a UAE salary with money sent to Pakistan
This example assumes a single worker in Dubai or Sharjah earning AED 7,000 a month in shared accommodation who sends 30% home. It is an illustration, not an official figure. Salaries in the UAE are paid without personal income tax, so take-home pay is close to the contract salary.
| Category | AED per month | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rent or bed space | 1,800 | Shared flat; varies widely by area |
| Food | 900 | Cooking at home most days |
| Transport | 300 | Metro and bus with a Nol card |
| Phone and internet | 150 | Prepaid or basic postpaid |
| Utilities share | 150 | If not included in rent |
| Money sent to Pakistan | 2,100 | About Rs 157,000 after costs |
| Savings in the UAE | 800 | Emergency fund and future plans |
| Personal and clothing | 500 | Flexible |
| Buffer | 300 | Rate swings and one-off costs |
If you plan to return to Pakistan one day, your own savings line matters as much as the monthly transfer. End-of-service gratuity helps, but it rarely replaces steady saving. For life in the Emirates, see cost of living in Dubai and budgeting app for the UAE. For the household receiving the money, our monthly budget planner for Pakistan splits rupee income into needs, wants and savings.
Tips for sending money from the UAE
- Send on a fixed day after payday so the transfer is paid before other spending starts.
- Agree a rupee amount with family and adjust the dirham amount only when the rate moves noticeably.
- Compare rupees delivered across two or three licensed providers, not the advertised fee.
- Plan early for Eid, weddings and school fees so they do not force an emergency transfer at a poor rate.
- Track every transfer in EMOH Pay, which converts across 148 currencies automatically, so you can see your dirham spending and the rupees your family received side by side.
