How do I budget in SAR and PKR?
To budget in SAR and PKR, cover your Saudi rent, food, transport and phone in riyals first, then fix the amount you send to Pakistan as a set share of salary. Convert it to rupees after fees and exchange margin, agree that rupee figure with family, and hold a small riyal buffer, since the rupee moves against the US dollar.
Budgeting in SAR and PKR starts with the riyal side. Write down what life in Saudi Arabia costs each month: rent or company housing deductions, food, transport, phone and anything you pay for dependants. The money left over is what you divide between transfers to Pakistan and your own savings. Converting SAR to PKR comes after that split, not before.
The calculator above follows the same order. Amount in SAR is the transfer you plan to make. Transfer fee (%) is the provider's charge; for a flat fee, divide it by the amount sent to get a percentage. Share of your SAR income to send home and monthly income in SAR are optional and show the monthly remittance in both currencies.
When the figure feels right, treat it as a fixed bill. Our currency converter covers other pairs, and EMOH Pay features explains how riyal spending and rupee transfers can be tracked together.
SAR to PKR today: what drives the rate
The SAR to PKR rate tracks the USD to PKR rate very closely. Saudi Arabia has pegged the riyal at 3.75 per US dollar since 1986, and the Saudi Central Bank maintains that peg. So when the rupee weakens against the dollar, it weakens against the riyal by almost the same amount.
In practice, that means you only need to follow one story: the rupee against the dollar. Pakistan's exchange rate is set by the market and has moved sharply at times, so a transfer that buys a certain number of rupees this month may buy more or fewer next month. Our USD to PKR converter shows the same corridor from the dollar side.
The rate in this tool is an indicative 2026 planning figure. SAR to PKR today will differ, and the rate a provider offers usually sits below the mid-market rate you see online.
SAR to PKR rate: what SAR 2,000 really becomes
This example uses an illustrative mid-market rate of 74 rupees per riyal and four hypothetical cost scenarios. It shows the maths, not a quote from any real provider.
| Scenario | Fee | Exchange margin | Rupees received |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mid-market, no costs | SAR 0 | 0% | Rs 148,000 |
| Low margin, small fee | SAR 15 | 0.3% | Rs 146,449 |
| "Zero fee" offer | SAR 0 | 1.5% | Rs 145,780 |
| Higher fee and margin | SAR 25 | 2.5% | Rs 142,496 |
The difference between the best and worst scenario is about Rs 5,500 on one transfer, or around Rs 66,000 over a year of monthly transfers. That is real money for a household in Pakistan. See remittance fees explained for a simple way to compare quotes.
Ways to send money from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan
- Banks in Saudi Arabia. Most salaries are paid into a bank account, and many banks offer remittance services in their apps. Check the rate as well as the fee.
- Licensed remittance companies. Common for workers who send every month, with branches and apps. Compare the rupees delivered, not the advertised fee.
- Digital wallets and apps. Several services licensed by the Saudi Central Bank offer account-to-account transfers to Pakistani banks.
- Delivery to mobile wallets. Many services can pay into Pakistani wallets such as JazzCash and Easypaisa, useful for family members without a bank account.
- Cash pickup. Fast in an emergency, but usually a little dearer.
Avoid hundi and hawala. They sit outside the regulated system, give no protection if money goes missing and leave no documented record of your remittances. The State Bank of Pakistan's Pakistan Remittance Initiative promotes formal channels, and non-resident Pakistanis can open a Roshan Digital Account online with participating Pakistani banks.
Sample budget: a Saudi salary with money sent to Pakistan
This example assumes a single worker in Riyadh or Jeddah earning SAR 5,000 a month, living in shared accommodation and sending 40% home. It is an illustration, not an official figure. Saudi Arabia does not charge personal income tax on employment income, but 15% VAT applies to most purchases.
| Category | SAR per month | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rent or shared room | 900 | Lower or nil if housing is provided |
| Food | 700 | Mostly cooking at home |
| Transport | 300 | Bus, metro or shared rides |
| Phone and internet | 150 | Prepaid or basic postpaid |
| Money sent to Pakistan | 2,000 | About Rs 146,000 after costs |
| Savings in Saudi Arabia | 550 | Emergency fund and flights home |
| Personal and clothing | 250 | Flexible |
| Buffer | 150 | Rate swings and one-off costs |
If your family joins you, budget for school fees, larger housing and the monthly levy Saudi Arabia charges expatriates for each dependant; check the current amount before you plan. Tips for sending money from Saudi Arabia
- Send on a fixed day after payday so the transfer happens before other spending.
- Agree a monthly rupee amount with family and adjust the riyal amount only when the rate moves a lot.
- Compare rupees delivered across two or three licensed providers every few months.
- Save ahead for Ramadan, Eid, weddings and school admissions so they never force an emergency transfer.
- Keep your own savings line. End-of-service benefits help, but they rarely replace steady saving.
- Record every transfer in EMOH Pay, which converts across 148 currencies automatically. Tracking is manual in Saudi Arabia; automatic bank sync is available for Canadian banks only.
